Menstruation problem Addressed

Menstruation is taboos and surrounded by silence in India. Because of myths and superstitions associated with it cause serious damage to the rights, respect, and dignity of women and leading to various forms of violence against them. Disposable pads available in the market are soaked in chemicals like in bleaching and plastic causing much harm to the body causes irritation & itching. They decompose in 800 years and pollute the environment for a longer time. Most times women are unable to make healthy choices to manage their menstruation due to lack of availability of options. Further, there is an issue with the dignity and safety of the people who manage such waste. They are often looked down upon and have major health threats when dealing with waste such as disposable sanitary napkins, which are often the cause for blocked sewage in drains & toilets. Disposable pads are costly due to that they are not reusable.

About use of Pads

1. How to wear the Anokhi pad?

For using an Anokhi pad you simply fold the wings around your panty and close the buttons as seen in the picture. Make sure that the plain white side of the pad is the side that is next your body and the colorful printed side is below. There is an important reason for this. You need to see the colour of the blood that is being discharged. If the discharge colours are yellow, green or pink – these indicate infection and you will need to see a doctor.

2. How to wash the Anokhi pad?

Soak the pads and napkins in cold water with few drops of Dettol or vinegar then use soap and wash them like you would wash your other clothing. Do not use hot water. Hot water will ‘fix’ bloodstains on the cloth, as blood is made up of proteins. ! Afterwards, washing hangs in direct sun as shown. So for its use availability of water and sunlight is a must. Sunlight is a very good disinfectant. Don’t dry in the shade because moisture is a source of bacterial growth and responsible for the infection.
